Credit for previous studies
You can apply for credit for previous tertiary studies you have undertaken. The relevant faculty will consider the subjects you have taken and the results you have received to determine whether you are eligible for credit.
If you are granted credit, it will reduce the number of units of study (subjects) you take in your course at the University of Sydney. Credit may be granted for either specified or unspecified units of study.
Depending on the number of credits granted, you may find that your course duration is reduced. Please note that international students studying on student visas are usually required to maintain a full-time enrolment in all semesters.
Any credits you receive will impact your choice of subjects (units of study) during your course. If you receive specified credits for core (compulsory) units of study, then your choice of elective subjects will not be affected. If you receive unspecified credits then you will still be required to take any core units of study, and the credits will mean you have less choice of elective units.
If you receive an offer of admission to the University of Sydney, you will have an opportunity to accept or reject any credit that you may also have been offered.
How to apply for credit
To have your previous study considered for credit, you must provide:
- detailed outlines for each subject including subjects descriptions, methods of teaching and assessment, reading lists, number of teaching hours, and any other relevant information
- the academic level of the units studied (e.g. First Year, Second Year)
- an explanation of the grading system used at your institution, and
- information on the total units of study requirement for the completion of the degree you were taking at the other university
