Australian Student Visa Information

Obtaining an Australian Student Visa

Once you have accepted and paid (and you have obtained a Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA) and/or Guardianship) an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) will be sent to the Australian High Commission, Consulate, Embassy or Diplomatic Post nominated in your Acceptance. A copy will also be sent to you or your agent to include with your Australian Student Visa application.

A range of conditions may affect how you apply for an Australian Student Visa. Some students will be able to apply for their Australian Student Visa on-line, others will be required to submit a paper application. Medical examinations and other documentation may also be required.

Please note that if you do not have an appropriate visa you cannot enrol at the University of Sydney.

Please consult The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for further information.

Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA)

Depending on your country of citizenship and course, you may be required to apply for a Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA) prior to accepting a Firm Offer. A PVA should be sought immediately as it can take 6 weeks or longer to obtain. Please contact the nearest Australian High Commission or Consulate for details or visit The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Evidence of your PVA approval should be forwarded to your Admissions Officer.

Guardianship

If you will be under 18 years of age when you arrive in Australia, you will need to demonstrate that appropriate guardianship arrangements have been made. For further information, please refer to The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
